Here is a listing of AKC approved English Springer Spaniel colors.  The color Roan is in the standard and can be shown.  The colors lemon, orange, and red are also listed in the AKC.  You CAN register these colors.  They just will not let you PLACE in AKC shows.   These colors have always been in English Springers, but they were culled by "traditional" breeders. 

Type: Standard or alternate. This is the classification of the color for show purposes. Please refer to the breed standard for specifics regarding this breed. Code: This is the code entered on an application for registration of a dog.

Color All the following combinations of colors and markings are equally acceptable:(1) Black or liver with white markings or predominantly white with black or liver markings; (2) Blue or liver roan; (3) Tricolor: black and white or liver and white with tan markings, usually found on eyebrows, cheeks, inside of ears and under the tail. Any white portion of the coat may be flecked with ticking. Off colors such as lemon, red or orange are not to place.
